LAURIE BLUMENFELD DESIGN
The kitchen required inventive strategies. Knowing that new cabinets were not part of the budget and new appliances were a must, we resurfaced the cabinets in glossy gray, added contrasting hardware, and installed cabinet lighting. A new lush black slate floor and handmade Moroccan tile back splash add contrast. The industrial chic pendant is the crowning touch. | Interior Design by Laurie Blumenfeld-Russo | Tim Williams Photography

Change Your Bathroom, Inc.
The original layout of this bathroom underutilized the spacious floor plan and had an entryway out into the living room as well as a poorly placed entry between the toilet and the shower into the master suite. The new floor plan offered more privacy for the water closet (Kohler No Touch Flush San Souci), and cozier area for the MTI Halo 52” Tub. A more spacious shower was created by shrinking the floor plan - by bringing the wall of the former living room entry into the bathroom it created a deeper shower space and the additional depth behind the wall offered deep towel storage. Also, by placing the vanity between two walls it allowed for needed in wall storage for toiletries. CleanCabinets with SMART sanitizing UV lights were installed on each side (one hidden in the wood wall) to keep the countertops clutter free. The custom vanity is solid oak with distressed blue paint and offers ample storage with both doors and drawers. Round lit mirrors give off plenty of lumens for task lighting hung on a full wall back splash with architectural ceramic tile (The Tile Shop) 24” x 48” porcelain tiles on the walls are trimmed out with Statuary marble tile and 30” porcelain tiles on the floor give the illusion of concrete (The Tile Shop). Epoxy grout was used for easy maintenance with absolute stain resistance with no topical sealers needed. The shower is controlled with Kohler’s digital DTV Prompt shower system which allows the water to run until warm and then turns off until the user is ready to shower. As a thermostatic valve, one can also set their favorite temperature and with the push of a button be ready to shower. All fixtures are Kohler Purist in Brushed Gold. The Clear Mirror heated shower mirror with lights is handy for shaving. The Hidden Drain shower system is along the back wall. A heated floor keeps the room cozy. All the lights in the room (including the mood lighting behind the integrated plant wall) are controlled with Alexa or a cell phone. A living plant wall thrives and enjoys the humidity each time the shower is used. An oak wood wall gives a natural ambiance for a relaxing, nature inspired bathroom experience.

Cathie Hong Interiors
This young married couple enlisted our help to update their recently purchased condo into a brighter, open space that reflected their taste. They traveled to Copenhagen at the onset of their trip, and that trip largely influenced the design direction of their home, from the herringbone floors to the Copenhagen-based kitchen cabinetry. We blended their love of European interiors with their Asian heritage and created a soft, minimalist, cozy interior with an emphasis on clean lines and muted palettes.

Scandinavian design started in the 1950s in the Nordic countries of Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. The style has now become trendy worldwide, especially with the rise of several well-recognized Scandinavian furniture companies like Ikea and Marimekko. Scandinavian designs are known for three main characteristics: simple, affordable and functional. Minimalism is a key component of the style — furniture takes center stage and accessories are rare and carefully selected. Scandinavian decor is all about light colors, white walls, clean lines and natural materials, such as wood, granite, leather and concrete. Nordic countries experience dark and cold winters, so fireplaces, cozy textures and well-placed lighting remains top priority.
